Aakaash Bali is a Fine-Art Photographer whose work explores the intersection of his personal experiences and relatable narratives. Born in New York City in 1990 to immigrant parents from India, Aakaash grew up in the dense, multicultural community of Queens. This diverse landscape provided him with a unique perspective on the world, and his work reflects this by transcending cultural and social boundaries. In 2013, Aakaash earned a BA in Political Science from Hofstra University.
Aakaash’s work is characterized as introspective narrative tableaus; dark, immersive stories that provoke thought. He explores relatable, often somber themes, expressing emotions of peace, quiet, danger, and risk. His stories are shaped by an emotive use of light and color- a signature style with memorable and recognizable aesthetics with some pieces weaving in cinematography components. Aakaash’s narratives all transition back to his upbringing, with the use of specific color shades, light patterns, and stories, all inspired from deep-rooted memories and experiences. He creates stories through personal introspection, and presents them in a manner where the viewer can live inside them.
Recently, Aakaash has produced many storytelling pieces, as well as a growing body of nostalgic nighttime photography, called The Shadow District. Some pieces such as “Broken Paintbrush” and “Running Away” have recently been exhibited in New York City, Miami, FL during Art Basel, and as a traveling night photography exhibition that will begin in the summer of 2023 in Berlin, Germany.
Driven to achieve artistic growth, Aakaash’s unique, consistent aesthetic sets him apart from other artists. Aakaash aspires to create without boundaries, with the goal of owning a dedicated production space and developing a unique brand of wall art, film, and sculpture.
